skyhouse books

Skyhouse Books was a concept for my senior capstone project that publishes children's books that focus on featuring main characters who belong to underrepresented communities in the literature world. The goal is to make the world of children's books more diverse, to show children that there are so many different kinds of people in this world and that diversity is beautiful.

Rudy and the Firebugs was one of the books “published” by Skyhouse Books, that features a young boy named Rudy who happens to be a person of color. Rudy and the Firebugs was written, illustrated, and designed by myself. In addition to this book, two mock book covers were designed to show the other kinds of stories that Skyhouse Books would publish.

A major challenge of this project was to think about every aspect of the book and how I wanted it designed– from the endsheets, covers, layout, typography and the illustrations.
